Witness Skills – Subpoena Training for Health Professional Witness (Confidential Client)

Client Background

Our client is a leading regional integrated public healthcare provider. The client provides a broad array of healthcare services across a large geographic area.

The client has a series of medical staff across all healthcare professions, who in turn provide healthcare and treatment to the community. Sometimes those staff are subpoenaed to give evidence to court.

One such staff member had been subpoenaed in relation to treatment administered to an individual involved in a criminal proceeding. The matter was listed in an upcoming trial and that staff member was subpoenaed to give evidence at the trial.

Training Provided

Loquitur provided a detailed “in house” training session for the staff member and key other staff on the giving of evidence to court under subpoena.

Topics covered included:

  • Types of witnesses and their duties
  • Specific considerations for subpoenaed witnesses giving evidence
  • The giving of testimony under cross examination
  • Counsel preparation to cross examine witnesses under subpoena
  • How witnesses should prepare for cross examination
  • Counsel cross examination techniques
  • Witness counter-measures and strategies to deliver clear and considered evidence effectively under cross examination
  • Sample mock cross examination sessions.

“The program was really useful. We would like to do some more training again soon. We really appreciate your help.”

“Very good session. It was difficult but I learnt a lot. It was explained and delivered very well. Was previously unprepared. Will be in a much better position now. It was a really worthwhile exercise and I really appreciate it.”
