We have been experimenting with AI, and we'd love you to try it. AI Barrister is our early-stage, work-in-progress attempt to simulate a cross-examination using artificial intelligence. It is not formal training - but it is a fascinating glimpse into what the cross examination processfeels like, and we think you'll find it useful. Try it, tell us what you think, and help us make it better.
At Loquitur, we know from experience that one of the biggest barriers to witness confidence is simple unfamiliarity with the process. Many people have never experienced cross-examination before they face it for real – and that first encounter, under pressure and in front of a tribunal, is not the ideal place to learn.
We started wondering: could an AI give people a taste of what cross-examination feels like, before any of that matters? Its not a replacement for proper preparation – nothing could replace that – but a low-stakes, accessible, and dare we say it, fun way to get a feel for the experience.
So we built something. It is a work in process, and it is not perfect. But we think it is genuinely interesting, and we would love to know what you think.
Step 1 - Pick a scenario
Select a scenario relevant to your role or situation. AI Barrister will set the scene and begin asking questions.
Step 2 - Answer as you would
Respond naturally, in your own words. The AI will follow up based on your answers - sometimes in ways that surprise you.
Step 3 - Notice what happens
Pay attention to where you feel uncertain, where you hesitate, or where a question catches you off guard. That awareness is genuinely useful.
Step 4 - Tell us what you think
This is the part that matters most to us right now. Was it realistic? Was it useful? Was it completely wide of the mark? Your feedback shapes what this becomes.
We want to be straightforward about what AI Barrister can and cannot do.
What it can do: It can give you a flavour of what it feels like to answer questions under mild pressure. It can help you notice which aspects of cross-examination feel most unfamiliar or uncomfortable. And, we hope, it can make the whole idea of being cross-examined feel a little less abstract and a bit more open.
What it cannot do (yet): It cannot replicate a real barrister. A practising barrister reads the room, adapts to your demeanour in real time, deploys decades of courtroom experience, and pursues lines of questioning with a strategic precision that no AI currently comes close to. AI Barrister cannot do any of that – and we would not pretend otherwise.
It is also not formal witness training. If you are preparing to give evidence in actual proceedings, please do not rely on this tool alone. Our proper training programmes exist for exactly that purpose, and they are delivered by practising barristers who know what they are doing.
Think of this as: A taster. A curiosity. A bit of fun that might also teach you something. We are genuinely excited about where this technology might go – but we are early, and we know it.
However experimental the tool, our commitment to ethical witness preparation remains the same.
AI Barrister is not designed to help anyone rehearse a script, construct a misleading narrative, or evade legitimate questioning. Its purpose – even in this early, experimental form – is to help people understand what the process of cross-examination involves, so that honest evidence can be communicated more clearly and confidently.
That principle is not experimental. It is the foundation of everything Loquitur does.
This tool is in active development, and your experience with it genuinely matters to us.
After you’ve tried it, we’d love to know:
You can share your thoughts via [email protected]. We read everything.
If trying AI Barrister has made you think about how you’d actually perform under cross-examination, that instinct is worth following up on.
Loquitur’s formal witness training is delivered by practising barristers, and built on years of experience preparing witnesses for courts, tribunals, inquiries, and arbitrations across Australia and internationally.
It is – in every sense – as ethically close to the real thing as you can get without actually being in the box.
We built this because we were curious – and because we believe technology might one day play a meaningful role in how witnesses prepare. We are not there yet. But we are working on it, and every person who tries the tool and shares their experience helps us get closer.
Developed in partnership with Zenobits. AI Barrister is an experimental tool and is not intended as a replacement for professional witness preparation. For formal training, please visit loquitur.com.au.
